0Candy Crush Soda Saga A Welcomed Sequel
King has made a killing off of Candy Crush Saga, the mobile game that nobody seems able to quit. However, the era of Candy Crush Saga might be coming to an end with the release of its newest competitor, Candy Crush Soda Saga.
Candy Crush Soda Saga is the latest game from King, and – you guessed it – sequel to Candy Crush Saga. Candy Crush Saga players, novices and veterans alike, will feel right at home with Candy Crush Soda Saga, as the core gameplay is very much the same. Players continue to swap different colored candies around to make matches and clear the candy from the board, all while avoiding or eliminating various blockers and obstacles. However, not all is the same, as Candy Crush Soda Saga has a few additional features that revolutionize the traditional way Candy Crush has been played.
The most important of these features, and the game’s namesake, is the implementation of soda. Soda is a new environmental factor that players must continuously take into account while playing, as soda is a radical change to the board’s usual mechanics. Whereas in Candy Crush Saga candy would fill in from the top as the player cleared space, Candy Crush Soda Saga introduces a screenful of soda that rises up from the bottom as the player matches colored soda bottles, a new type of candy on the board. As the soda rises, candy below the soda will fill in from the bottom, by floating into place, while candy above the soda will continue to fill in from the top normally.
In addition having account for the soda to complete classic, familiar goals, Soda Saga also packs a number of new goals based around the soda gameplay mechanic. One such goal, or level type, is raising the bear. At the bottom of the board there is a bear inside a bubble, and as the player bursts soda bottles, the board fills with soda, and the bear rises to the top. We found this to be both challenging and fun, as the game now requires constant attention to both the top and bottom of the board in order to finish these new goals successfully.
Before you play it, Candy Crush Soda Saga might just seem like a Candy Crush update that King deemed large enough to make an entire game of it. While this seems the case at first, players will soon realize that Soda Saga, while not a ‘new’ game entirely, is indeed a quality sequel to the Candy Crush Saga that we all know and love.
