0Johnny Depp Joins Cast of Wes Anderson Film ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’
By Dale Lavine
Director Wes Anderson has always had a knack for casting the same handful of actors from his pool of talent for his hit indie films, and his next venture – titled ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ – seeks to aim at that same pool of acting candidates…with one exception, of course.
Johnny Depp has been confirmed to join Wes Anderson’s newest film ‘Grand Budapest Hotel‘ in an unspecified role.
Joining Johnny Depp are the usual “Andersonites” Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, and Owen Wilson – with rumors surfacing that Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe could also star in the upcoming Grand Budapest Hotel film. It has also been revealed that Jude Law, Angela Lansbury, and Edward Norton are in talks to join the cast as well.
So what does this mean for Wes Anderson? Between the nine actors listed thus far, the cast is full of Academy Award nominees and winners of various other awards. Most of, if not all of Anderson’s works have been well received, and on one scale or another fairly successful. The addition of huge Hollywood name Johnny Depp is bound to bring in a large number of people to see ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’, no matter how large his role is.
Johnny Depp has been on a slippery slope as of late with a few of his last releases. ‘Dark Shadows’, while earning more than its production budget, pulled in lower numbers than anticipated. His newest film, ‘Lone Ranger’, has faced numerous setbacks and even the death of a crew member, and he had an uncredited cameo in Adam Sandler’s movie ‘Jack & Jill’ – which was touted as one of the worst movies of the year. Hopefully Wes Anderson’s critical masterpieces can pull Johnny Depp out of his funk, as well as bring more people into the lesser-known world’s that Wes Anderson produces.
There’s no set date for ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ just yet, but it’s said to be aiming for a 2014 release date.
