0Nolan Possibly Involved With ‘Justice League’
We should know by now that things in Hollywood aren’t always as they seem. We should know by now that, just because someone’s representatives say “No, they aren’t doing that” doesn’t actually mean “No, they aren’t doing that” – if anything, it might mean “No, they aren’t doing that…right now”. Such has been the case with ‘Man of Steel’ director Zack Snyder, who said time and time again that he wasn’t involved with the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie. Such has been the case with Christopher Nolan, producer of the upcoming ‘Man of Steel’ movie, essentially saying “No, there’s nothing going on here, I swear”. We did however learn, eventually, that Zack Snyder adamantly dismissing any rumors of ‘Man of Steel’ being connected to ‘Justice League’ may have been somewhat of a red herring, or a ploy, to distract the citizens. Naturally, we discussed this in a nice little article about Snyder’s talks with another publication.
Now it seems as though Christopher Nolan may have dropped a small quasi-detail about his involvement with the newest Warner Bros. franchise while talking to indiewire.com’s ‘The Playlist’. When discussing how his Batman series might relate to the newest Superman series, he did say that the two weren’t exactly alike, but instead said the following:
“Well, somewhat […] But I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman”, he continues, “It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done […] Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can’t in anyway use the same template. But David Goyer had this, I thought, brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience.”
Of course, when asked about his involvement with ‘Justice League’ and whether or not he would take on a Joss Whedon-esque role (mastermind behind ‘The Avengers’ [and we’ve discussed the similarities between the soon-to-be ‘Justice League’ film and ‘The Avengers’ before]), he apparently laughed and gave the usual Hollywood non-answer:
“Well, as I’ve said, and I’ll say definitively again, I am done with the Batman films, the trilogy is completed. It ended in the manner we had envisioned.”
Okay, Nolan. We’ll play your games, for now. Just know that when it turns out you are in fact involved with ‘Justice League’, we’ll have known about it for some time.
To be fair, there would be nothing wrong with Nolan helming the franchise. ‘Man of Steel’ is expected to be a more serious Superman film than we’ve seen before, and I’d venture to say that if Christopher Nolan was involved with ‘Justice League’, we should expect a grittier version of the superhero team to come together. With rumors flying that the new Superman movie might be a lead-in to ‘Justice League’, and that Joseph Gordon-Levitt might be sought to take on the Batman role in the future film, it seems entirely possible…and now it’s seeming almost probable – especially when you connect the dots between Nolan’s current involvement with ‘Man of Steel’ and the numerous comments about the future of DC’s two most famous superheroes.
For now, though, it remains a small glimmer of hope. Chris Nolan is perhaps the only person that could pull ‘Justice League’ out of the toilet bowl it’s headed towards, and I think Warner Bros. might actually know that.
