Dexter Recap of Last Season & Season 7 Preview

Showtime’s hit drama, Dexter began season 7 last Sunday, September 30th. Dexter season 7 has been highly anticipated by fans after last season’s finale ended with Deb finally catching Dexter in the act of a kill. We’ve been waiting six years for Deb to discover Dexter’s dark secret.
Dexter Season 6 focused around Travis Marshall (Colin Hanks) and Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos), the Doomsday Killers, going on a murderous rampage in the name of the Lord. Dexter also struggled with religion, meeting the devout Brother Sam (Mos Def) who causes him to question his previously undoubted wickedness. Here’s a recap of the way season 6 ended and my thoughts on each plot point:
Recap of Last Season of Dexter
- • Travis stabbed Professor Gellar with a big rusty sword a year ago, locked him in a chest freezer, and has been hallucinating his presence and direction ever since. – This is one of the reasons I love Dexter. The total plot twists are so titillating. I just made incoherent sounds at the TV when I saw this.
- • Quinn has been acting like a total drunk ever since he broke up with Deb and Batista is going to transfer him. – Finally, Quinn has been being a total goob. He really screwed the pooch on this one.
- • Deb told her therapist she’s in love with Dexter. – Not that she loves him, but that she’s in love with her brother. He’s adopted but this is still crossing some lines. This new storyline gives me the heebie-jeebies but I’m really interested to see where it goes.
- • The new Dexter-idolizing intern Louis bought the prosthetic arm from the Ice Truck Killer case, drew something on it, and mailed it to Dexter. – I have no idea what is going on here but I’m sensing some deep pathological issues in our friend Louis that I’m excited to see play out.
- • Travis tried to sacrifice Dexter’s son Harrison for the final act he thought would bring about the end of the world. Dexter stopped him and took him out in the usual fashion, wrapped in plastic with a little pre-murder chitchat. – This was not very surprising as most seasons of Dexter end this way but you root for it every season, just the same.
- • Deb walks in just as Dexter finishes Travis off, witnessing the whole thing. – IT FINALLY HAPPENED. I just hope Deb is cool about it… She can be so uptight sometimes.
Dexter Season 7 will consist of 12 episodes and will feature guest stars Calista Flockhart, Ray Stevenson, Jason Gedrik, and Yvonne Strahovski. Last November it was announced that Dexter was renewed for this 7th season and for season 8, which will be the show’s last season.
