Game of Thrones Winding Up Its 4th Season
Things are getting exciting. George R.R. Martin’s and HBO’s Game of Thrones has only been around for a few years, but it is already infamous for its gruesome deaths and its unabashed way of killing off everyone’s favorite characters. Spoilers follow, so continue with caution if you’re not caught up with the show.
A lot has already happened in Game of Thrones season 4, but things are just getting started. In the first episode of the season, Jaime Lannister tries to adjust to life back in King’s Landing with the loss of his sword hand, while his father reforges the Stark ancestral sword. Tyrian welcomes to King’s Landing Prince Oberyn, who we learned is there for to avenge his sister’s death. Everyone prepare’s for the king’s wedding, while Jon Snow returns to Castle Black and Daenerys marches toward Meereen.
The second episode is where things get interesting, and rightfully so — this is the episode for season 4 written by George R.R. Martin himself. Theon Greyjoy, now a slave called “Reek,” has been tasked to kill Bran and Rickon, the last legitimate sons of Stark. Tyrian, trying to protect Shae, breaks it off with her and implores her to leave. And finally, at the royal wedding — right as Joffrey humiliates Tyrion — Joffrey dies from poison. Cersei, devastated, has Tyrian arrested.
The aftermath of the king’s death consumes much of the next few episodes, but there’s stuff going on in every storyline. Tyrion sits in a cell awaiting trial that will determine his fate; Arya and the Hound continue traveling in hatred of each other; Sansa escapes King’s Landing with Littlefinger’s help and is brought to her aunt’s fortress; the Night’s Watch burns down Craster’s Keep; Bran continues seeking the Raven north of the wall; and so much more.
And while all that is going on, we’re STILL waiting for the sixth book in A Song of Fire and Ice. Eventually, the HBO show might actually catch up to the books, unless George completes his final two books. In the meantime, we can still enjoy watching the watching the show and reading the Game of Thrones recap and character bios for the entire series.
