Tracy Morgan “Passes Out” for 2012 Emmys Prank with Jimmy Kimmel

At last weekend’s Emmys, host Jimmy Kimmel enlisted the help of 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan to pull a prank on all the people not watching the Emmys. Kimmel told Tracy Morgan to pretend to pass out on stage “for about ten minutes or so and when people tune in they will see this on the stage.” Kimmel then told the audience and viewers to go on Facebook or Twitter and post/tweet, “OMG, Tracy Morgan just passed out on stage at the Emmys. Turn ABC on now!” After asking Kimmel to hold his nunchucks, Tracy proceeded to lie motionless on his back with arms outstretched for the next category, confusing presenters Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, who did not seem to be in on the joke. The topic quickly began trending on Twitter with 54,000 almost instant tweets. Mentions of Tracy Morgan rose by 127,300 percent after Jimmy Kimmel made his announcement.
This got me thinking about television pranks so I made a list of some prank tweets I’d like to see trending at next year’s Emmys:
- OMG, all the Emmys cameramen have been hypnotized by Sofia Vergara’s boobs. The editors are just going back and forth from one angle to another. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, the lights set fire to Nicki Minaj’s wig. She’s okay but there’s a puddle of pink plastic stuck to the stage. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, Aaron Paul and Bryon Cranston are peddling meth backstage at the Emmys. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, Justin Beiber is getting tattooed on stage at the Emmys. It’s another Jesus face but guess where?! Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, the cast of Mad Men is doing the macarena. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, Tom Burgeron just said something that was actually funny. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, Louis CK dyed his beard blue. Turn ABC on now.
- OMG, Maggie Smith just did four hand springs and a back flip after accepting her Emmy. Turn ABC on now.
